Sunday Poetry: Chicago Dyke

Fellow Eschatonian Chicago Dyke is a remarkable, intelligent, and talented woman. Besides her witty and incisive comments on Eschaton, she also has her own blog at Corrente.

Recently, she showed yet another facet of her brilliance with the following haiku:

farmhouse shuttered, barn
doors closed. dried hay smells that rise
up, on empty floors.

*****

green grass, wet and bruised
brown. the old ford, rusted red
full of tack, leather.

*****

morning ride, cold! grasp
the horn, hold those legs-
corral door left open!

aw, shucks, ma'am. i was jist kiddin around. you're too kind.

but i remember that morning discussion...i do so miss the ranch/farm sometimes. i know my grandparents lived large in their golden years b/c they sold it, but i miss the horses, the hay, the barns, the other farm stuff. just as i mourn corporate farms, and how they've come to replace what i grew up with.
