Surging Graves

The surge which was originally entered into on the understanding that the government in Iraq would get its act together and start governing is failing. The unmet goals are proof enough of that.

The surge that is working is the upward direction of trooops' deaths. Today another commander made open declaration of the facts, something that we can not underappreciate. The statement of facts, though, is of appalling acceptant of deaths without any gains.

Eight American soldiers were killed in roadside bomb attacks Sunday, which had one of the highest single-day death tolls this year. They were among 11 U.S. soldiers killed on a day when car bombs killed scores of Iraqis, threatening to deepen sectarian tensions.

A car bombing in a commercial district in Baiyaa, a predominantly Shiite neighborhood in western Baghdad, killed 42 people and wounded dozens on Sunday. A senior U.S. commander said Sunday that the military was bracing for a rise in the casualty rate in the coming months, as an ongoing security offensive attempts to tame the catastrophic violence and stabilize Baghdad.

"All of us believe that in the next 90 days, you'll probably see an increase in American casualties because we are taking the fight to the enemy," Maj. Gen. Rick Lynch, commander of the Army's Task Force Marne, told reporters Sunday. "This is the only way we can win the fight."
(snip)
Still, Gen. Lynch predicted that by August or September, U.S. forces would have "a decisive effect on enemy formations."
(snip)
"I don't see there will be significant progress on the government side between now and fall," he said. "You can't just build a government overnight."

The cretin in chief continues to hold tightly onto his war without any care for the grief he is inflicting on those families making the sacrifices he demands - in return for empty words, meaningless promises.

"Enemy formations"

An asymmetric enemy uses no formations.

This guy's reading straight out of the academy book. Considering how many West Points grads leave these days, it's apparent that back-of-the-class types have been promoted...
