A Light To The World

Al Gore deserves a lot of credit, more than a Nobel Peace Prize. Hardening himself to the peanut gallery of the White House goon squad - a place he had earned and would have ennobled - he has forged a recognition of the threat this planet faces almost singlehandedly.

The scientific community hasn't made headway against the cabal in areas like stem cell research and food safety. There, obstructionists have silenced and mocked science and kept the U.S. aeons behind the civilized world. Al Gore faced down the cabal, and has forced them to admit the truth. Of course, they don't come out and admit it, that would be acting like adults.

I had forgotten the origins of the U.N. committee head for global warming action, IPCC. An appointment backed by the Cretin in Chief, Dr. Pachauri was called by Al Gore at the time of the nomination a foot-dragging representative. The Nobel Peace Prize awarded to IPCC is, as he honestly admits, due to the efforts of Al Gore.

Indian scientist Rajendra Pachauri has spoken of his surprise at the UN panel he heads being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its work on global warming.
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and campaigner Al Gore were named as joint winners on Friday.

"I can't believe it. I'm overwhelmed," Dr Pachauri, 67, told well-wishers in the Indian capital, Delhi.

"The committee is trying to tell the world we need to do something about climate change urgently."

Praise for Gore

Dr Pachauri said he was "just a symbol" and credit was due to his organisation and its efforts.

"It is really the scientific community that contributes to the work of the IPCC and the governments who support the work of the IPCC who are really the winners of this award."

The message should go out to everyone - developed and developing countries - we are all in this together

He said he felt privileged to share the prize with "someone as distinguished" as the former US vice president.

"Al Gore certainly deserves it. The amount of effort he has put into creating awareness about climate change has had a major impact."

The two men spoke on the phone after the announcement.

"This is Pachy... I am certainly looking forward to working with you. I'll be your follower and you'll be my leader," Dr Pachauri said.

"Convey my congratulations to the IPCC," replied Mr Gore.

The two campaigners did not get off to the best of starts when Dr Pachauri was elected to head the IPCC in 2002.

US President George W Bush backed the Indian for the post, but Mr Gore, who had lost the presidential election to Mr Bush, criticised his appointment.

In an article in the New York Times, he called Dr Pachauri the "let's drag our feet candidate". The Indian hit back a few days later with a letter condemning Mr Gore for his "derogatory comments".(Emphasis added.)

Sometimes we are dragged kicking and screaming into responsible behavior, and Al Gore is having this effect on our own administration, as well. Although we all know he doesn't mean it, Cretin-1 has had to take a role which doesn't fit, and act the part of an environmentalist. Of course, in the European community he is recognized as an obstructionist masquerading as a responsible world citizen. But he is having to admit the truths he was denying for so long, and back away from the line he had always espoused, that global warming was a myth.

Saving the world is another mocking term to the recidivists that have taken possession temporarily of high office. It reminds me that charitable behavior has been made the object of contempt under the criminals running this country into the ground. Al Gore has given a new energy to good impulses, and high minded behavior.

Wouldn't it be great to have some one like him conducting the affairs of state? Surely there is some way to get him to make that sacrifice.

Here in 'Zona, McCain is already carping about how Gore didn't really deserve it.

I am very proud of Al Gore and I couldn't be happier for him.
