Fool Me Once
The silliness of this administration is overwhelming, but it kills people.
"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."
Evidently to a few less than 30% of the populace, this is endearing and in the Truman madhattery mold . Remember, Truman was a haberdasher, the chemicals used in hatmaking induced insanity, whence the Alice in Wonderland mad hatter. [see the link]
Many of the jokes about Truman had a basis in fact. However, the members of the Truman administration were not involved in international oil industry cartels.
This administration has very questionable roots. And it has really bad habits. Many people, however, expect and want them to behave well and lead the 'free world'.
However, this administration has accused its enablers of being fooled and therefore being responsible for their atrocities. The many members of Congress who voted to give this administration the leeway to have authority to declare war are accused of declaring war. The administration declared that WMD's were fact, and that they would act responsibly and keep the world from the nuclear threat. Many members of congress voted to give them the power to negotiate with war on the table, believing they would behave responsibly.
Fool me once theory, perhaps. If accepting the administration's lies makes you responsible for their reckless behavior, this is time to look very closely at the lies. I heard a few members of Congress yesterday say that dreaded word. Lies. Most dangerous. But will they realize that they are going to be held responsible for their atrocities if they accept the lies?
Say it loud and clear. The cretin in chief tells lies. He tells them to get his way. If you accept the word of a proven liar, you are just as responsible as he is. Fooled me once? We're far beyond that level. It's to the level of refusing to act on the word of a proven liar.
Regrettably, the world knows what this level is and what the challenge is. Let your representatives know that you back them in refusing to go down the road of lies. No more lives should be lost to support lies.

I'm curious why the quiet undercurrent is noting that what... a week ago ...the prez was saying he heard the public, and would propose a new strategy. This strategy turns out to be ... same strategy, only now with even more troops. That's such a quick turn, or lack of turn when one was promised, that even USians should be able to notice it - yet the news has barely whispered about the flagrant misstatements.
That must be a powerful 30%.
There was a lovely Robin Wright, Tom Hicks & Co. article in WaPo juxtaposing the statements the cretin in chief made 2 weeks ago about his policy being formulated by the military leaders in Iraq, that he has now replaced with those that agree with his failed policies, with his statements about his new 'Great Leap Forward' - see Mao.
