Bonus Critter Blogging: Greyhounds

I'm devoting the month of November to the saints who engage in various forms of animal rescue. This edition has to do with dogs who race, and when their racing careers are over are abandoned. I've selected The Greyhound Adoption Center simply because it is the closest one to my home. If you use the Google, you can easily find a group closer to you, especially if you live in a state near a track that races these beautiful dogs.

Greyhounds have a special place in my heart because the Alzheimer's convalescent hospital that both my late father and my late brother spent their final days at had one of these rescued dogs "on staff." I saw what a difference that arrangement made to both the humans and the dog.

In any event, here's what The Greyhound Adoption Center has up at their site:

The Greyhound Adoption Center is one of the oldest and largest greyhound rescue groups in the United States. We have placed more than 3,000 greyhounds since our founding in 1987, initially as a branch of Greyhound Pets of America.

We are a not-for-profit group, staffed almost entirely by volunteers. More than 225 greyhound lovers throughout California and Nevada help with transport or work with the dogs at our kennel in San Diego, California. Other volunteers contribute time as placement representatives or are involved in fund-raising or catalog sales. Many more help spread the word about greyhounds by increasing public awareness at "Show 'n' Tells" or other forums.

If you go to their site, you will find links which will lead you to groups in your area. Send them some turkee if you have it, or volunteer some time.
