Getting The Oil
As life in 4th District of Texas will teach you, there is a huge oil industry and it digs very deep for profits. Right now it wants to get drilling in ANWR and coastal shelves. Funny thing, I keep listening to wingers get up on the floor and make charges that us libruls are making oil prices so high because we won't let those innocent well meaning fellas - that have been shutting down refineries and telling us it's the lack of refineries that's making oil priced so high - drill on all those places.
Hello, May 1, lots of strikes about all the high prices. I joined in comments at Eschaton yesterday when a lot of us talked about the day being the anniversary of the Mission Accomplished banner, that Dana Perino told a roomful of reporters really wasn't specific enough, because it meant all those sailors had accomplished their mission. Pishposh, to be old-fashioned and nice about it. That banner we already know was pre-arranged and put up by cretin in chief staffers.
The problem is that to be a supporter of the occupied White House requires that you be an idiot. Since they know they're talking to idiots, the GoPervs don't care what they say. This is all about that Rovian ideal, getting people to vote for rightwingers who will rob them, and that takes a lot of lies.
I also am very suspicious about the voting mechanism, and will only give it one more chance to make sense. I really don't disrespect my fellow Americans so much that I actually believe they will choose to sell this country out because of a bunch of blatant lies, and let their kids and grandkids grow up under rule by war criminals who steal public money and end the rule of law that made this country great, and prosperous.
One hundred years of war, private contractors getting billions for out of date food and weapons for the troops, food stamp level living for the folks they get to fight their war because there are no jobs, permanent tax reductions for the CEOs who get paid huge fees to fail to produce while reducing wages and cutting jobs for real workers, sending more tax breaks to the corporations who offshore profits and jobs, reducing repairs on our infrastructure, impoverishing our kids who try to pay for a college education that doesn't guarantee anyone a decent job anymore, waiving environmental concerns to put in a ridiculous wall to send illeguls a few miles down the road to get over the border... and now just let these war criminals drill where they want to, or you have to pay $5 a gallon for their oil?
I listen to the action on the House floor often on CSpan, and you ought to as well, and hear those wingers saying the Dems are responsible for the high price of oil and need to allow drilling in protected areas. Maybe you will get into a boil too, and get busy getting those liars out of Congress.
I have a congressman who continually says if we don't allow that drilling, we'll have to make more wars to get that oil. There's no doubt in my mind that old senile Rep. Ralph Hall will be elected again, and no, I don't believe the voters in my district are responsible or dumb enough for that.
As I said yesterday, time to start the next tea party going.
May Day. Indeed.

Hi Ruth!
Truth is, the oil companies don't want to drill in ANWR, nor do they want to construct any more refineries. Why invest in infrastructure when they're making record profits just as things are? And they throw up their hands in mock frustration and claim they'd really like to invest in more drilling and refineries but the environmentalists won't let them. They want you to believe supplies are extremely tight but the fact is there is curently no shortage of oil. Have you seen gas stations with empty pumps and long lines of cars?
Speculators in the futures market are a large part of the real reason prices are so high, but they're just exercising their right as predatory capitalists. The only real answer is to drastically reduce our oil consumption, if we could ever get a government willing to commit to such a heretical concept...
FeralL, I seriously think things are so tightly interwoven, the oil co's think they can get funding to drill and put in pipelines, and they pro'ly will, if they get another occupied WH full of criminals. But if they had to put up the upfront funding, you're right.
