Mission Accomplished: In Their Own Words
When I saw this posted by Michael Cone, candidate for congress in S.C., at Eschaton, I really was happy some one had the thought to go get it from the source. Since Dana Perino declared that the banner should have been more specific, as it referred to the mission of the sailors on the ship, as I mentioned above, it's interesting that the occupant of the White House failed to point that out at the time.
So here it is, and thanks, future Rep. Cone, for the cretin in chief's statements five years ago under that banner that said Mission Accomplished.
It being May Day, Mission Accomplished Day, I think it is important to recall the words our president spoke on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln.
Major combat operations in Iraq have ended. In the Battle of Iraq, the United States and our allies have prevailed.
Curious, no mention of the Lincoln's mission.
In this battle, we have fought for the cause of liberty, and for the peace of the world. Our nation and our coalition are proud of this accomplishment — yet it is you, the members of the United States military, who achieved it. Your courage — your willingness to face danger for your country and for each other — made this day possible. Because of you, our nation is more secure. Because of you, the tyrant has fallen, and Iraq is free.
Still no mention of the Lincoln's mission.
Operation Iraqi Freedom was carried out with a combination of precision, and speed, and boldness the enemy did not expect, and the world had not seen before. From distant bases or ships at sea, we sent planes and missiles that could destroy an enemy division, or strike a single bunker. Marines and soldiers charged to Baghdad across 350 miles of hostile ground, in one of the swiftest advances of heavy arms in history. You have shown the world the skill and the might of the American Armed Forces.
Still no mention of the Lincoln's mission.
This nation thanks all of the members of our coalition who joined in a noble cause. We thank the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom, Australia, and Poland, who shared in the hardships of war. We thank all of the citizens of Iraq who welcomed our troops and joined in the liberation of their own country. And tonight, I have a special word for Secretary (Donald) Rumsfeld, for General (Tommy) Franks, and for all the men and women who wear the uniform of the United States: America is grateful for a job well done.
Bravo Zulu to everyone, not just the Lincoln.
Snow (D-SC)
So again, the war criminals are lying. And as I also said in the last post, only idiots will vote for them, they know their audience. The lies will never be examined, and the wingers won't listen to any truths that might be reported.
May Day.

Wow.
No mention of the Lincoln.
I'm so grateful to our mainstream press, the good men and women at the AP and CNN and everyone else who repeated Dana Perino's comments verbatim for pointing this out. Even, god bless her, Helen Thomas, who asked the question to begin with.
Oh. Wait. Never mind!
The media just doesn't deal well with the lies and paid shills and has to stop it's reporting those sources as if they were credible. I got a full dose of that this a.m., and my present post, "Ignorance Is No Excuse" treats with this.
